The Strike and I

For the past two days, I’ve been in idyllic Queens bliss. Not having the required 4 people to carpool with, I’ve been trapped at the last stop on the N line since Monday night, but actually this entrapment feels pretty good.

I’ve gotten up at the usual work time, woken by the usual work alarm, but each morning have found no way into the city and a boss that is eerily flexible on this issue and has allowed me to “work” from home. I sit in my pjs drinking coffee and watching the news until inspiration strikes. Yesterday I ran errands in the morning and visited people I have not seen on a weekday in years: Mr. Drycleaner, Ms. Bakery and Ms. Vet.

In addition to my carefree errand running, I’ve also been able to make serious progress in the “Great Home Redo”. With F & J vacating the premises, I was able to con E a fellow designer into moving and making things happen around here. We finally settled on furniture, fabrics, paint, wallpaper, fixtures and such last week, but were uncertain how we were going to make all this happen with our busy schedules. Since my Strike Imposed Vacation started I’ve also been able to drop the armchairs off at the upholsterer, buy paint for the living room (BM “Wood Grain Brown”!) and new bookcase (BM “Pacific Ocean Blue”!), paint said bookcase, buy and paint glass for bookcase and order our new shiny white lacquer desk for the study.

Last night I was even able to organize a little Astoria Based dinner last night at 4 for my fellow vacationers followed by leisurely (mostly free) drinks at our favorite dive, the ‘Tross. Life is good people, life is good.

MTA! OK!

I would personally like to take this moment to thank the MTA for their well timed strike! Today has been such a blast so far...no work (of course, too far!) all fun. Thanks again MTA...but next time, how about a Friday strike instead?

Kisses,

M

Taste

Lately I’ve become obsessed with that overpriced French dishware company, Le Creuset. Their dishes aren’t all that interesting, it is the quality that most cooks (like my favorite Rachel Ray) use ‘em for. But, recently I found these darling little peppers, tomatoes, and other garden shapes that I have to get. And now, thanks to the miracle that is eBay, even a PURPLE PEPPER. What will they think of next?! If anyone say, needs a great Christmas gift last minute, this is the way to go. I think they’ll look perfect next to the other garden gnomes and glass ware I own!

Oh! And…Does anyone own this stuff? I’m wondering how easy it is to clean and maintain…before I start delving into the world of pricey enamel ware…
